Dear Earth Community,
What can we as Unitarian Universalists contribute to build a planet that is both sustainable and just?
Environmental Justice is the theme of UU Ministry for Earth?s second annual Earth Day Resources. As UUs we are called to articulate the interface between our understanding of our place in the natural world and the daunting political, social and economic issues of our time. We call this interface Environmental Justice, a bridge between Nature and Society which pursues simultaneously the protection of natural systems and the ecological health of human communities?especially communities of the poor, minorities, and indigenous peoples.
With generous support from the UU Funding Program, UUMFE has created the following resources to help you build Earth justice in your congregation:
- DVD of Van Jones presenting the Ware Lecture at 2008 General Assembly - A stirring call to Environmental Justice and a Green Economy. Available with discussion questions, at a discount price of $10 through April 30th, while supplies last.
- Environmental Justice: A Guidebook for Understanding and Action - Written by Rev. Katherine Jesch. Priced at special half-off price of $15 when published in late Spring.
- Free Downloadable Earth Day Sunday Celebration Resources, including:
In addition to using these resources for Earth Day and beyond, we ask that you make your Earth Day service an opportunity to support the work of UU Ministry for Earth.
Please include a special collection for UUMFE as a part of your service and use the service as an opportunity to promote membership in UUMFE. Our continuing service to UU congregations depends upon the generous support of individual UUs and their congregations. We encourage you to download the UUMFE brochure and membership form and make copies available for your congregation. Our office is ready to assist you with membership development.
In the hope that Unitarian Universalists will make every day an Earth Day dedicated to a sustainable and just future,
Claudia Kern and the Board of Directors
Unitarian Universalist Ministry for Earth
Please Note: Congregations who are current members of UUMFE will receive a free Earth Day Worship Resources Packet in the mail the first week of March. Please alert your church office to watch for it and direct it appropriately. This packet will contain a few of the posters, so member congregations may wish to download the others as well.
