Now it's time to focus directly on the people making the policy! Recommend Action: Call the White House on Monday, December 7th! Set up a Call-In Table during coffee hour this Sunday (before Copenhagen) so people at your congregation can easily contact the White House to share their support for strong and just climate action! Talking points and info on how to set up a call-in table are available on the UUA website at http://www.uua.org/socialjustice/issues/environmentaljustice/climatechan...
Beginning December 7th, President Obama will be convening in Copenhagen with world leaders to establish a framework for an international treaty around Climate Change. This United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is an opportunity to shape our shared future for the better and could be a turning point in preventing future climate catastrophes. Given the opposition President Obama is hearing from corporations, strong pressure from constituents--and especially the moral voice of the religious community--is incredibly important! If you're concerned about climate change, now is the time to act!
Our Unitarian Universalist history and theology calls us to protect the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part. Since climate change has the most devastating impact on people already marginalized by racism, sexism, and poverty, we must be particularly vigilant to ensure that any climate change agreements provide support and resources to vulnerable places and populations. That’s why the goal of the UUA’s climate change campaign is to support strong and just climate agreements.
